About US

ONE SIGN FOR ALL

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce MK Design. Founded in 1995 by husband and wife team Mark & Karen Rose, our philosophy for signage is to provide “one sign for all”.

Over the last 29 years since the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 (now the Equality Act 2010) came into force we, at MK Design, have been working with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) to standardise the advice given to establishments on décor and signage to allow them to cater for users, staff and visitors with visual impairment. The aim is to ensure that confusion and disorientation is avoided as much as is possible, and that these physical barriers are overcome.

Mark Rose of MK Design has over 30 years experience in the sign industry and has been a specialist in accessible signs for over 29 years. Mark has been instrumental in the development of Braille and tactile sign specifications for the UK. He wrote the Bulletin Sheet no 24 on signage for the RNIB and has acknowledgement for his contributions to the Sign Design Guide published in 2000.

Sign Design, Consultancy and Supply

The purpose of all signs is to help the user find their way to and from a destination and for the provider to make their building more user friendly whilst communicating a design and thought that reflects their caring attitude, and portraying an identity. Signs are usually one of the first contacts a person has with an organisation and the initial impression they give can have a lasting effect, as it is in that all important first few seconds that one’s opinion of an organisation or building is formed.

Signage forms only a very small percentage of the cost of a building, typically only 0.1%, but it does contribute greatly to the aesthetics and first impressions of a building. It also increases people’s awareness of their surroundings and aids orientation around the structure. Spending on a well designed sign system can therefore be very beneficial to all concerned.
